1/72 Spad 510 at war
The FRROM Spad 510 at War is a 1/72nd scale model of a French single-seat fighter biplane from the second half of the 1930s. It was the last biplane fighter in service with the French Air Force. Machines of this type were deployed in the early stages of World War II, primarily in an air defence role and as trainers. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
The Spad 510 was the last biplane fighter aircraft of the French Air Force. It entered service in 1936, when most modern air forces were already converting to all-metal monoplanes. The design was based on the proven principles of previous Spad types, but also incorporated modern features such as an all-metal airframe with canvas covering and an enclosed cockpit on some examples. The aircraft was powered by a Hispano-Suiza 12Xbrs engine and armed with two 1934 MAC synchronised machine guns.
By the outbreak of World War II, the Spad 510 was obsolete, yet several machines were in service with fighter units and training squadrons. They saw combat service in the defence of France in 1940, where they performed more support duties and training of new pilots.
The 1/72nd scale FRROM plastic kit features detailed fuselage and wing work, a realistic engine cowling and fine panel engraving. Included are decals for several WWII era machines, including combat and training units. The model is suitable for modellers interested in inter-war and early war types that were at the transition from biplanes to modern fighter aircraft.
The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
