1/72 SPz Marder 1A3,Ukrainian Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The SPz Marder 1 was developed in the 1960s by Rheinmetall as the first German infantry fighting vehicle of the new generation and from the early 1970s formed the basis of the armament of the Bundeswehr's mechanized units. Its design emphasised crew protection, reliability and infantry support in conjunction with Leopard tanks. Over the decades, the Marder has undergone a number of upgrades, with the most significant version being the Marder 1A3, introduced into service in 1988.

This modernization brought additional armor weighing 1.6 tons, strengthened suspension, new brakes, and a redesigned turret that to make better use of the armament - the 20mm Rheinmetall MK 20 Rh202 automatic cannon and the MG3 linked machine gun. These modifications made the Marder 1A3 one of the most rugged and reliable fighting vehicles of its class.

As of March 2023, Ukraine began taking delivery of Marder 1A3 vehicles from German stocks. By the end of 2024, approximately 200 of them had reportedly been delivered and prioritised for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' airborne units. The vehicles quickly proved to be robust, well-protected and powerful vehicles for transporting and supporting infantry in challenging combat conditions.
