The aircraft
The F-14 Tomcat was a twin-engine, two-seat fighter with variable-geometry wings and tandem seating. It entered service in the 1970s as the replacement for the F-4 Phantom II in the air-superiority role. Its typical armament included the 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon together with AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-54 Phoenix missiles.
