The principle is similar to a classic pencil: by turning the tip, the brush extends or retracts, allowing the length of the protruding fibres to be precisely adjusted. Shorter bristles mean a harder and more aggressive abrasion, while longer bristles mean a gentler action. Steel bristles are among the hardest options available and offer the strongest scraping ability, which is useful when working with more durable materials.
