Information about the original:
Early in the morning on April 26, 1940, four members of KG 4 took off in their Heinkel He111 P-2 5J+CN from Fornebu Airport in Oslo, Norway. However, this bomber—one of three tasked with attacking the town of Andalsnes—was damaged by fire from the ship HMS Manchester. As a result, it was no longer able to maintain formation with the remaining Heinkels when it was surprised by two British Blackburn Skua aircraft from FAA No. 801 Squadron taking off from the HMS Ark Royal. The pilot of the Skua A7-A opened fire with his machine gun, managing to hit the bomber and kill flight engineer Willi Stock in the process. With one engine inoperable and the other on fire, pilot Richard Gumbrecht had no choice but to make an emergency landing somewhere in the snow-covered mountains below. The remaining crew members managed to escape from the wreckage and make their way out of the mountains. However, their Heinkel—which was essentially intact—remained in the mountains for another 30 years before it was recovered and restored by the Military Aviation Museum in Oslo, Gardermoen.

This aircraft, which was responsible for more damage caused by strategic bombing during the Battle of Britain than any other aircraft, comes with an incredible amount of detail, as it was designed using information that Airfix has never before utilized in creating its models. And the results are truly fantastic! This terrifyingly fast medium bomber, a “wolf in sheep’s clothing,” was originally disguised as a commercial aircraft, even though the Luftwaffe’s intention from the very beginning was to make it its main bomber for the early stages of World War II.
