Information about the original:
The diminutive Folland Gnat was originally developed as a lightweight and affordable jet fighter, but the Royal Air Force eventually used it extensively as an advanced, high-speed trainer. The Gnat entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1959 and, over its twenty-year service career, helped train many hundreds of future jet pilots.
