Launched in 1940 and commissioned in December 1941, the Japanese battleship Yamato was the flagship of the Imperial Navy and the largest battleship ever built. With a length of 263 metres, a displacement of 65,000 tonnes and nine 460 mm guns, she represented the pinnacle of Japanese military power.of Japanese naval design and a response to the growing power of the American and British navies.
The Yamato was the first unit of its class, developed in secret in the 1930s in response to the possible lifting of Washington's restrictions. At the time, she was not only the most heavily armed, but also the best armored ship in the world. She served as Admiral Yamamoto's flagship during operations early in the war, including the Battle of Midway. In later years, her combat deployments were limited, yet she participated in the battles of the Philippine Sea and off Leyte. Her last mission was Operation Ten-Go in April 1945, a suicide mission against American forces off Okinawa in which Yamato was sunk by a massive attack by American aircraft.
Glow2B's premium Yamato kit captures this legendary wartime colossus with a high degree of historical accuracy and fine detail.
