Historical background
The vehicle was developed under the direction of Ferdinand Porsche. The prototype was known as Type 62, while the production version was designated Type 82, and full-scale manufacture began in February 1940 once the Volkswagen plants were operating. It became the standard four-seat light transport and utility car of the German armed forces, including the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS.
The design did not undergo any major wartime redesign, only smaller modifications and simplifications. In March 1943 it received a revised dashboard and the larger 1,131 cc engine developed for the Schwimmwagen, offering more torque and power than the original 985 cc unit. By the end of production in 1945, 50,435 vehicles had been built.
The model subject
The kit includes decals for 1 version. It fits naturally into scenes focused on transport duties, headquarters support or general field use alongside other German wheeled vehicles.
