Detailed description: The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is one of the most significant combat aircraft of the second half of the 20th century. It was a two-seater supersonic multi-role aircraft that became famous for its versatility — it served as a fighter, a fighter-bomber and a reconnaissance aircraft. The RF-4C and RF-4E variants were specialised photographic reconnaissance versions, in which the redesigned nose section was fitted with reconnaissance cameras and sensors instead of radar and cannon armament. These aircraft were used for tactical reconnaissance and intelligence gathering; thanks to the Phantom’s high speed and range, they formed the backbone of reconnaissance units in numerous air forces for many years.

The RF-4C variant was primarily used by the United States Air Force, whilst the export version, the RF-4E, was deployed by other operators around the world. For modellers, the reconnaissance Phantom is particularly attractive due to its distinctive nose and rich operational history, which offers a wide range of colour schemes and unit markings. The kit emphasises this flexibility with a set of decals for seven versions, allowing you to choose between several colour schemes and markings.

The Italeri model, in 1:72 scale, measures 26.7 cm in length and features a detailed reproduction of the Phantom’s distinctive silhouette, with its characteristic swept-back wingtips and swept-back horizontal tail surfaces. The 1:72 scale is practical for both building and display, and allows the model’s appearance to be harmonised within a larger collection of aircraft. For the reconnaissance version, careful highlighting of the panelling and operational wear and tear consistent with intensive service is usually applied. The kit does not include the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
