One of Italy’s most feared armored vehicles
The Semovente 75/18 was developed from the hull of the M-series medium tank and served with the Regio Esercito in support of both tank and infantry units. Its 75 mm howitzer, mounted in a casemate, was not limited to artillery support: it also proved to be a highly effective anti-tank weapon. Its reputation was strengthened by the vehicle’s low silhouette and good mobility on roads and rough ground alike. This type saw combat in Africa and later during Allied operations in Italy; after Italy withdrew from the war, some Wehrmacht anti-tank units continued to use it.
