Italeri 2667 F-14A TOMCAT 1:48
Italeri 2667 represents the F-14A Tomcat, the U.S. Navy carrier-based fighter, as a 1:48 scale plastic kit. The F-14 was developed partly from experience gained with the F-111B program, first flew on 21 December 1970, and production aircraft began reaching frontline squadrons in 1973. VF-1 and VF-2 accompanied the last voyage of the aircraft carrier Enterprise to Vietnam, but did not see combat.
The Tomcat's first combat action came in 1981 over the Gulf of Sirte, where two Libyan Su-22s were shot down during an encounter. The Tomcat was later updated several times and, as a type, took part in conflicts in the Middle East including the Iran-Iraq War and the First and Second Gulf Wars, as well as operations over the former Yugoslavia.
The box contains plastic parts for a model 390 mm long, skill level 3, and decals for one version. The instructions include a suggested color scheme with Italeri paint references.
