The color schemes of IJN warships were not uniform. Shades varied depending on the shipyard where the ships were built or maintained. The “Sasebo Naval Arsenal Color” is a specific medium-gray camouflage color applied to ship hulls at the Sasebo shipyards in Nagasaki Prefecture.

• Unlike the darker Kure color, the Sasebo shade is lighter and more grayish, which is key to correctly distinguishing between different ships and time periods.
