1/35 Sd.Kfz.181 Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E Tiger I Mid Production w/Zimmerit s.Pz.Abt.506 Eastern Front 1944
Brand: Dragon

The Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I (Sd.Kfz.181) is one of the most iconic tanks of World War II and still represents the symbol of German armoured power. The Tiger I was designed in response to the need for a heavy tank capable of countering the Soviet T-34 and KV-1, which the Wehrmacht first encountered in 1941. With armament consisting of the legendary 88mm KwK 36 gun and heavy armour (up to 100mm in the frontal area), the Tiger was a formidable opponent on all fronts. The Mid Production version included a number of technical improvements over early types, such as modified running wheels, reinforced landing gear and modified command cupolas.

A distinctive feature of this particular version is the Zimmerit coating - a special anti-magnetic paste applied to the surface of the armour to prevent magnetic mines from adhering. Zimmerit was applied by hand directly in the manufacturing plants or field workshops, creating aIt created the typical grooved structure that is today one of the most recognisable details of German tanks from 1943-1944. For modellers, Zimmerit presents an interesting challenge in painting and surface highlighting.

The Schwere Panzer-Abteilung 506 (s.Pz.Abt.506) was an independent heavy tank company reporting directly to the army command, which fought on the Eastern Front from the summer of 1943. In 1944 the unit participated in defensive operations in the Baltic and later in Poland, where it faced massive Soviet superiority. The Tigers of this unit bore typical tactical markings and were often deployed as a mobile "firefighting unit" to destroy breaches or to support defensive lines. Service on the Eastern Front meant extreme conditions - mud, frost, dust - and the tanks quickly acquired the characteristic wear, scuffs and operational contamination.

The 1:35 scale Dragon kit is renowned for its precise detailing and quality form. The model depicts a medium production version of the Tiger I with a full Zimmerit texture, either modelled directly on the plastic parts or supplied as a separate application. Included are usually variant parts for different configurations (such as wheel types, exhausts, additional equipment) and detailed markings corresponding to the historical deployment of the s.Pz.Abt.506 in 1944. The 1:35 scale allows detailed work with surfaces, weathering and accessories, making the model an ideal basis for advanced aging and realistic techniques.

For painting, a basic German dark yellow (Dunkelgelb) is recommended, with any additional camouflage stripes in olive green or reddish brown, typical of 1944. Highlighting the Zimmerit requires subtle shading and highlighting of the grooves with dry brush or oil paints. Service wear should include scuffed edges, mud on the undercarriage and lower fuselage, dust on the upper surfaces and possibly rust marks around the exhausts and vents. The package does not include paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
