The Ward LaFrance Model 1000 Series 3 (M1 designation) was an American-made heavy recovery tractor, deployed during World War II primarily by the British Army. This series, produced in 1942, was distinctive in that it lacked front and rear air connectors for trailers, as it was designed exclusively for British users. The vehicles were originally painted in Colorado Tan and later repainted to British standards. From a certain production run, they were also fitted with a reinforced front bumper with grips and a 'whiffle tree' for rope handling.
