1/48 AV-8B Harrier II PLUS

The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) AV-8B Harrier II is an attack aircraft that represents the second generation of the British Harrier aircraft with vertical or short take-off and landing (V/STOL) capability. This unique capability allows Harriers to operate from the decks of smaller aircraft carriers, amphibious assault ships, and makeshift forward bases. The AV-8B was developed in a cooperative effort between the United States and the United Kingdom and entered service with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in 1985. The Harrier II Plus variant represents a major upgrade that was introduced in 1993. It was equipped with an advanced APG-65 pulse-doppler radar (the same as used by the F/A-18 Hornet fighters), which greatly improved its all-weather capability, and allowed it to use AIM-120 AMRAAM medium-range missiles. These improvements have made the AV-8B Harrier II Plus a versatile multi-role aircraft that has been deployed in many conflicts, including Operation Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.
