Autumn wilderness in scale: Density and color

When creating a realistic landscape, the density of the vegetation is as important as its color. AK Vegetation - Dense Autumn Tufts (AK8129) represent a "dense" version of autumn vegetation. While regular tufts can appear as solitary tufts, the Dense version simulates compact tufts of grass that have survived the summer and are now browning and drying due to the cold, but still retain their volume.

With a height of 8 mm, it is one of the most distinctive products in the range. This type of vegetation has historically been invaluable for representing unmaintained areas such as the ditches along the roads in Normandy during the autumn of 1944, the overgrown edges of airfields or abandoned defence lines. The specific colour mix of brown and ochre blends perfectly with the late camouflage scheme equipment models and contrasts well with the dark model mud.

Technical information and tips for modellers

The Diorama Series is designed for professional results while maintaining maximum ease of use.

• Easy to apply: the clusters are self-adhesive and placed on a handy foil. Simply remove them with tweezers and apply to the surface.

• Visual depth: 8 mm in height, these clumps are ideal for 1:35 scale (as tall grass) or for 1:48 and 1:72 scales where they can simulate reeds or wild scrub along roadsides.

• Fixation: Although the canes have their own adhesive layer, for permanent fixing on rough terrain or on basesWe recommend additional fixing with a small amount of white glue (PVA) or a specialised AK118 Gravel & Sand Fixer.

• Combining: for the best effect, combine these dense clumps with the lower variations of autumn grasses (e.g. 4 mm or 6 mm) to create a natural gradation of vegetation.

Important note: The kit/package does not contain paint or glue (except for the base self-adhesive layer).
