Information about the original:
In 1980, the German automaker unveiled its new two-door coupe, named the Audi Quattro, to the public at the Geneva Motor Show. This car was produced throughout the 1980s. Audi chose an Italian name for it (Quattro means “four” in Italian), which highlighted its main advantage and most important selling point: all-wheel drive. It was the very first time that 4x4 drive had been used in a coupe with the primary goal of achieving high production and sales figures. Thanks to this, however, the Audi Quattro also boasted excellent handling characteristics—enhanced by its front-mounted, longitudinally positioned engine—and very good reliability on all types of terrain. In 1981, a racing version was developed from the production model, which made its debut at the World Rally Championship, where it achieved respectable results. The success of the “Quattro” cars continues to this day. After all, this name has become a true brand, now carried by all Audi vehicles with all-wheel drive.
