The MiG-21MF represents one of the most successful variants of the legendary Soviet MiG-21 supersonic fighter aircraft, which became a symbol of the Cold War and one of the most widely used jet fighters in history. The MF version (Modifikacija Forsirovannyj - Modified with Reinforced Engine) was created in the late 1960s and early 1970s as an improved variant with a more powerful Tumanski R-13-300 engine, enhanced avionics and improved armament. The MiG-21MF served not only in the Soviet Air Force, but was widely exported to Warsaw Pact countries including Czechoslovakia, where it formed the backbone of the fighter force for several decades, and to many other countries around the world.

The design of the MiG-21 was based on the concept of a light, fast and relatively simple delta-wing fighter, which was intended to provide air superiority in short, intense engagements. The MF variant brought, among other things, improved radar, the ability to carry a wider range of air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, and extended range due to additional fuel tanks. In practice, the MiG-21MF has proven itself in a number of conflicts, from the Vietnam War to Middle East engagements to African and Asian conflicts. Modelers find this type attractive due to its distinctive silhouette, rich deployment history and a variety of paint schemes from different countries and eras.
