Italeri DUKW 1:35 – an amphibious vehicle for assault landings
Italeri DUKW 1:35 represents the American transport designed to move supplies and troops directly from ships to the shore. It was developed from the GMC CCKW-353 2½-ton 6x6 truck, but replaced the standard road-going body with a welded hull reinforced by horizontal ribs so it could operate on water as well. That combination of truck layout and amphibious capability made the DUKW a key element of landing logistics.
Operational use in the war
The real vehicle could carry up to 2,400 kg of cargo or 25 fully equipped soldiers. DUKWs served widely with the US Army, the US Marine Corps and other Allied forces across several theatres. Its operations included the Normandy landings on Utah and Omaha beaches, as well as Salerno, Anzio and Pacific beach assaults. This anniversary boxing therefore ties the subject to one of the best-known episodes in its wartime service.
What is included in this edition
The kit is produced in 1:35 scale and builds to a finished length of 241 mm. Inside are new decals for 4 marking options and colour assembly instructions. Figures are not included, which is worth noting if you plan a vehicle display with crew or a landing diorama.
