Westland Whirlwind Mk.I 'Cannon Fighter' in 1/32 scale by Special Hobby captures one of the most ambitious British fighter projects of WWII. The Westland Whirlwind was developed as a heavy fighter with four 20mm Hispano cannons in the nose, giving it an extremepowerful firepower compared to contemporary British and German fighters armed mainly with machine guns.

With a speed of over 560 km/h and excellent maneuverability, the Whirlwind was an ideal aircraft for interception missions and strikes against ground targets. It was mainly used for deep-sea raids on German convoys and airfields in occupied France. Despite its excellent performance, the aircraft suffered from a shortage of suitable Rolls-Royce Peregrine engines, production of which was limited due to the priority production of Merlin engines. Because of this, only 114 Whirlwinds were built, which were subsequently scrapped in favour of the Hawker Typhoon and other types.

The 1/32 scale model offers detailed treatment of the aerodynamic fuselage, engines, landing gear and armament. An ideal choice for modellers interested in the lesser known but technically interesting British WWII aircraft.
