AK Pigments TRACK RUST

AK Interactive AK085 Track Rust Pigment (35 ml) is a high-quality, finely ground pigment developed for patina effects on models, figures, wargaming miniatures, and dioramas. Its shade is “rust on tracks” and is suitable for depicting dry rust on steel tracks, links, drive wheels, and other heavily oxidized parts of the undercarriage. Pigments in this series can be mixed together to create smooth transitions and shades that match a specific environment.

Dry Application

1. Pick up a small amount of pigment with a dry, soft brush. First, tap off any excess away from the model.
2. Work the pigment into the desired area and gradually blend it out until it fades away. Build up the intensity in thin layers.
3. For a loose, easily adjustable dust effect, you can leave it unfixed. For models intended for handling, fix it in place.
4. For permanent fixation, allow AK048 Pigment Fixer to soak into the pigment via capillary action; do not smear the pigment with a brush.

Wet Application

1. Mix the pigment with AK048 Pigment Fixer or a suitable white spirit to form a thin mixture, a paste, or a thick paste, depending on the desired texture.
2. Apply the mixture to seams, around details, on the chassis, or on terrain. After it has partially dried, you can soften the edges with a clean brush.
3. Once completely dry, check the shade. Wet pigments appear darker; once dry, they return to a color closer to their dry state.

On tracks, first create a rusty base using the Track Rust shade. Contact surfaces and polished edges can then be highlighted with AK086 Dark Steel pigment.
