The Curtiss P-40E Warhawk was one of the most important American fighter aircraft at the beginning of World War II. The E version, with a more powerful engine, six machine guns and improved armament, was deployed not only by the US Air Force but also by Allied forces in the Pacific theatre - including the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). P-40 fighters took part in intense combat in New Guinea, Australia, the Solomon Islands, and elsewhere in the Pacific, where they earned a reputation as tough and resilient machines.
