1/35 Tiger I Mid-Production w/Zimmerit Otto Carius (Battle of Malinava Village 1944)
Brand: Dragon

The Tiger I was one of the most iconic and feared tanks of World War II. Its combination of thick armour, powerful 8.8cm KwK 36 gun and robust construction made it a dominant force on the battlefield, although its weight and complexity of production limited the number of units produced. The Mid-Production version represented an advanced stage of development with a number of technical improvements over early versions and often carried a surface finishzymmerite, a special non-stick material applied in distinctive patterns to prevent the attachment of magnetic mines.

Otto Carius is one of the most famous tank commanders of the Wehrmacht. During his service he achieved more than 150 confirmed enemy vehicle kills, making him one of the most successful tank commanders in history. In July 1944, he commanded a unit of Tiger I heavy tanks during the defense of the village of Malinava (now Latvia) against the Soviet offensive. In this battle, his unit faced massive odds and managed to destroy dozens of Soviet tanks, with Carius' Tiger playing a key role in defending the position. This action became one of the most famous episodes of his career and was later described in his memoir, Tigers in the Mud, which is one of the most widely read memoirs by tank veterans.

The 1:35 scale Dragon kit depicts Carius' Tiger I from the Battle of Malinava. The model features the characteristic details of medium production, including the zimmerit finish that was standard on heavy tanks during this period. Zimmerite is represented on the kit either by embossed panels or the option of custom application depending on the builder's preference. Scale 1:35 is ideal for detailed work - it allows you to faithfully capture the structure of the zimmerit, armor wear, operational contamination matchesto the intense fighting on the Eastern Front, but also small elements such as tools, spare parts or crew personal equipment.

For modellers, this kit is interesting not only technically, but also historically - it presents a specific vehicle with a clearly documented combat history and a commander whose name is still associated with the tank battles of World War II. The colour scheme corresponds to the typical paintwork of German tanks from 1944: basic dark yellow (Dunkelgelb) with possible camouflage stripes in green and brown, complete with tactical unit markings and service wear. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
